Apartment HMH

The attic of a traditional multi-family residential building along the road between Sterzing and Pfitsch was transformed into an open, light-filled apartment while improving its energy efficiency. The floors below remained unchanged. A new shed dormer extends the usable living space and integrates naturally into the existing roofscape. The building’s characteristic appearance, with its pitched roof and dark timber cladding, is preserved. Inside, the spatial layout was completely reorganized. The east-facing bedrooms form a private retreat, separated from the living area. At the heart of the apartment is a spacious and inviting living space. A custom-designed piece of furniture defines the different functional zones while maintaining fluid transitions between them. Its proportions and integrated functions are carefully aligned with sightlines and spatial relationships. Dark-stained timber and understated built-in furniture define the interior. The deliberately restrained design creates a calm and harmonious living atmosphere.
